Eight Bells Ltd proudly participated in CYPSEC 2025, presenting its cutting-edge work under the European Defence Fund (EDF). Gen HE A (Ret) Nikolaos Kontopidis, Senior Project Manager at Eight Bells  delivered a presentation titled “Presentation of Eight Bells Ltd and its EDF projects”. The talk highlighted the company’s role as a pioneering high-tech SME, showcasing its involvement in 10 major EDF-funded projects. With expertise in 5G/6G telecommunications, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and advanced thermal imaging systems, Eight Bells is committed to enhancing European defence capabilities through innovation, collaboration, and technological excellence.

Eight Bells Ltd. participates in the REWIRE Research and Innovation Action on compositional security verification and assurance

Eight Bells Ltd. participates in the REWIRE Research and Innovation Action, officially started on October 1st, 2022. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon Europe Programme (Grant Agreement No. 101070627) and spans on the period October 2022 – September 2025.

REWIRE envisions a holistic framework for continuous security assessment of open-source and open-specification hardware and software for IoT devices and the development of cybersecurity certification in accordance with the requirements and guidelines of recent EU Cybersecurity Act. In particular, REWIRE proposes a scalable and multifunctional cybersecurity platform that will ensure the security throughout the life of the IoT devices with continuous security auditing, trust computing and theorem proofs for defining a hardware-based microarchitecture for enhanced protection targeting to open-hardware/software vulnerabilities.

REWIRE has invested in three carefully selected pilots (Automotive, Smart Cities, Smart Satellites), which can address the ambitious objectives of the project, i.e., a customizable TEE based on RISC-V, and micro benchmarking for quick and automated assessment of h/w vulnerability. Thus, REWIRE aims to safeguard the entire workflow of secure processing; from the Deployment and Operation of software-based System of Systems to their patch management when new exploits have been identified during run-time, by providing new trust management mechanisms towards the auditability and certification of SW/HW open-source specifications.

Eight Bells Ltd. brings expertise in SSH and ethics for trust aspects into the REWIRE action, by providing the Cross-Domain Ethics Toolkit, namely the mechanisms that can analyse the conformity checking of technological developments to security/privacy regulations. Specifically, Eight Bells Ltd. will contribute to the elicitation of requirements for Security, Trust & Operational Assurance in NG SoS, to the REWIRE Reference Architecture, and to the Certification & Runtime Auditing Specification. In addition, Eight Bells Ltd. Will provide contributions for the Use Cases Definition and Demonstrator-Specific Requirement Analysis, along with the critical Appraisal of the REWIRE Framework & End-User adoption guidelines of NG Trust IoT Solutions. Finally, 8BELLS leads, manages and coordinates the activities towards increasing the impact of REWIRE, serving as WP7 leader “Dissemination, Standardization, Exploitation & Impact Creation”, also undertaking the role of Dissemination and Communication manager for the project.

8BELLS participates in ENCRYPT project

Eight Bells Ltd. participates in the ENCRYPT Project, funded by the European Union’s Research and Innovation Framework Programme Horizon Europe, with a duration of three years (July 2022 – June 2025).

The project’s main goal is to address challenges related to existing Privacy Preserving technologies, thus providing researchers and service providers working with personal and other sensitive data, with a scalable, practical, adaptable privacy-preserving framework facilitating the GDPR-compliant processing of such data stored in federated cross-border data spaces. Within this framework, a recommendation engine for citizens and end-users will be developed, providing them with personalised suggestions on privacy preserving technologies depending on the sensitivity of data and the accepted trade-off between the degree of security and the overall system performance.

14 partners from 8 countries have formed an interdisciplinary consortium, covering the value chain for privacy- preserving computation technologies, and they will work together for the next 36 months to realise ENCRYPT offer.

8BELLS in ENCRYPT serves primarily as key technology provider of a quantified measure of privacy, offered by Differential Privacy, allowing AI systems to choose the explicit tradeoff between privacy and accuracy, while ensuring reliability. Additionally, 8ELLS participates in the Cybersecurity Use Case, as data owner and end-user. Finally, 8BELLS leads, manages and coordinates the activities towards increasing the impact of ENCRYPT, namely serving as the Communication and the Exploitation leader.
